The federal dropship has reasonable shields, great armor and excellent weapon capabilities. The jump range and fuel capacity is ok. With a less than impressive cargo hold compared to its competitor, the Imperial Clipper, you’re better off choosing the T-7 or Clipper if moving cargo is your goal.

When PVE bounty hunting or engaging in other non-player combat, the Dropship is pretty solid. The impressive armor is fairly helpful in PVE, as most ships don’t target power plants, and the speed of the craft becomes much less of an issue since NPCs very rarely run, and when they do, they forget to boost.

Exploration is less than ideal, as even with an ultralight fit, the ship can only jump around 19 LY at a time.

The Federal Dropship claims to be a multi-role ship, but is forced into either combat or combat-hybrid roles (piracy) due to its limited cargo space, shielding, and speed. Even as a pirate ship, your target options are limited to T-7s and T-9s, as most anything else can leave fairly easily due to higher max speed.
